Poem by Doniell Cushman
Mom watched Judge Judy
It was a religious affair Mom microwaved my mail Because she believed in anthrax Mom gave us codewords So we couldn't be nabbed by bad guys Mom wore slippers to the store There was no time for shoes Mom taught cheer She wasn't really an athlete Mom ran out of gas We had to be rescued by my father Mom skipped church She told us they all talked about her Mom ran a daycare The other kids were our playmates Mom shopped at thrift stores Taught us the value of a deal Mom loved pigs Kids called her Miss Piggy Mom had cancer It ate at her breast Mom died from cancer Her urn is on my bookshelf Mom spoke to Robert Just before he died Mom never visits me She wants her ashes buried Illegally © Doniell Cushman.
