Blackout 2021

Blackout, Darkness in the
cold night
Like the skin on an over-
ripe avocado

Children crying "I'm scared
of the dark,
Mommy, can you turn the
lights back on?"

Almost dead phone
Frantically digging in
baskets for emergency
candles

Flickering Flames
floating upstairs, downstairs
Generator running NASCAR
a racer, rushing the
blackout away
Hodgepodge of aromas
Dim shadows dancing

Wishing for a candelabra
For Liberace moments
As we bundle down to
read and wait
For how long?

Ten minutes later, after
an hour of "damage
control"
setting up the show

They came on again
